Irony: Sunday was my mom's birthday. Happy birthday, Mom! We went up to her house for a celebration and for her gift we gave her a pair of Yaktrax--just like the ones I bought for myself for my birthday. Just like me, my mom has wanted to go for walks in the winter and was tired of being hindered by icy sidewalks.
Wednesday, she went out for a walk on a perfectly beautiful day. Bright sunshine, warmer temps, and nary a speck of ice on the walks. No need for the Yaktrax. She was trotting happily along when she was startled by some dogs across the road, one of which looked like it was going to b-line it for her. Shaken, she took her eyes off the pavement to assess the situation with the dog for just a moment, when boom, she found herself literally flat on her face, having tripped on a lip of pavement she hadn't noticed before. Her nose was broken, her lips were the size of tangerines, and her knees were badly bruised.
She'd been avoiding the ice all this time and just when she got some shoes to help her deal with it, the lack of ice is what ultimately did her in.
She's fine. She's sore, but fine. She's not wanting to be seen in public for a while as the bruises spread across her face, but she won't let that keep her down for long. Love ya, Mom!
Update: Scout the most magnificent family dog has responded well to treatment. A new, high protein, expensive diet; pills to help his liver function; and pills to help with his incontinence have rendered him as annoying as ever.

How are you, anyway? I've been lost in the past on Facebook, adjusting to the idea of a new roommate as we haven't actually seen much of Beccah at all, and working my hiney off at work. We're seeding 3 publications this month alone and yowza but there's a ton going on over there. I hope you are well. Leave me a comment and catch me up. I've been missin' all y'all in blogland.
(((hugs))) to your Mom, poor thing!
Hope that things slow down for you soon, it's been quite the whirlwind for you lately, hasn't it?!
Hope that you can kick back & relax this weekend, perhaps get lost in a good book?! :)

My mom fell hiking last weekend and broke her elbow - so I feel for your mom...glad Scout is doing well and hopefully seeding 3 publications means you will get it done and have some time to breathe soon!

Oh your poor mom, ((hugs)) to her! Hope she heals quickly and glad Scout is doing better. I've been working 12 hour days and crafting to de-stress from the day job, lol. ;) Have a great weekend!

My dad fell a week ago when a super-mean cow kicked him. He cracked his femur and my brother and I are trading off taking care of him.
Do you wonder why a 90-year-old man is chasing cows? So do I!!
