No, it's not another post about World Card Making Day, although I'm sure you don't want to forget to post a comment here to be entered to win a prize.
No, you see, at our abode, the holiday season begins with Mark's birthday, just ask him and he'll be happy to tell you all about it. And since Mark's birthday was on Saturday, the holiday season has officially begun. It's worse than Christmas carols in the mall the day after Halloween. Trust me.
Actually, I love that Mark's birthday falls during one of the most beautiful times of the year. The aspen have all turned gold in the mountains and the maples have ripened to a rich red as well. I can't think of one of Mark's b-days that has been ruined by weather, which is why we invariably celebrate with a hike. This year we celebrated with two hikes, one on each day of the holiday season kick-off.
On Saturday, we hiked a little three-miler past Silver Lake to Lake Solitude up Big Cottonwood Canyon:
Afterwards we had lunch at our favorite spot, Silver Fork Lodge. Here's the view from the deck:
On Sunday, we hiked 6 miles up Corner Canyon, near our home (where the fire didn't spread):
On Sunday night, we celebrated with the fam by cooking brats on a campfire in our backyard:
My mom was there:
Along with Beccah, Bartemus , and Colie:
And of course, Scout, the dog:
We had a ton of fun:
...for who doesn't love kicking off the holiday season on September 27?
So much to do, so little so much time.
Happy birthday holidays, Mark! May the spirit of the season be yours today and throughout the coming new year!
Gorgeous photos Cath!!!
