Here in Chicago, far from home, I decided to pay the $9.99 per 24-hour period to avail myself of the hotel's wireless Internet service, so I could stay connected to my life that seems ever more tethered to my computer.
Only to discover this subject line for an e-mail from my sweet man: Something Unexpected Growing in the Garden.
My first instinct was that we had something gross like a disgusting fungus growing in our garden; or something eerie, like a den of snakes slithering between the Yarrow and the Shastas; or even something slimy like some cool colony of mushrooms.
But no, it wasn't anything sinister or bothersome, certainly not anything that might induce the gag reflex, just this:
A bird nesting among the perennials.
A welcome sight at the end of a difficult week.
The promise of new life. In our garden. Sent across the miles with love.
From me to you, too.
Very sweet Cath--sure to bring a smile to your face and you deserve it. Enjoy your time away. Can't wait to hear all about everything!
